Santander Bank Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Santander Bank, N. A. (formerly Sovereign Bank) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Spanish Santander Group. It is based in Boston and its principal market is the northeastern United States. It has $57.5 billion in deposits, operates about 650 retail banking offices and over 2,000 ATMs, and employs approximately 9,800 people. It offers an array of financial services and products including retail banking, mortgages, corporate banking, cash management, credit card, capital markets, trust and wealth management, and insurance.

In August 2020, on the portal WALLETHUB, Rich Temple wrote a review for Santander Bank Checking:

"Did you know it could take almost 3 hours to open a savings or checking account, as well as add one name on to a safe deposit box access? I didn’t either until I arrived at this bank. I would cut them a little slack because we were replacing an account that had a fraud perpetrated upon it, but still… Every process is woefully inefficient, there is little regard given to customer experience, and the bankers adjoining the banker we were dealing with were so noisy that I couldn’t hear the banker that I was talking to.

This bank seems to do everything they can to make the banking experience MORE difficult and, subsequent to our lengthy visit when I had to call their customer support to reinstate our e-banking account they hung up on me twice after long wait times on hold.

Stay away from these folks – if there’s ANY other bank nearby, go there instead!"

Tell the world why Santander Bank sucks!

Former Employee - IT Manager says

"High on nepotism; low on integrity!!! Almost everyone's related, married or best buddies (from Spain). Unprofessional environment! All L3's and below are treated like incompetent children (little to no respect). No REAL opportunity for upward mobility (unless you have a friend)."

Former Employee - Business Analyst says

"Not collaborative, your opinion doesn't matter, bad data your thing then give them a ring. When you bring them a will probably get released. Just being honest."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"A job offer can take months to get approved for no explained reason. The team-building activities such as service projects are treated like a box to be checked and are more about wearing the bank's branded t-shirt in a public event than about any genuine giving back or staff morale. My colleagues complained about participating in staff fun activities instead of appreciating the time away from work. Supervision is sometimes not clear and not logical for the team. The colleague I trained with loudly complained at work about the company's benefits and often complained about such things to external partners. She also trashed all of her teammates in unacceptable and unprofessional ways (criticizing their clothing, their days off, their spouses), all during work time and and was protected by management when I raised this concern. Another colleague told me a good rule of thumb is never to speak to unless spoken to, like I was a toddler. Several other colleagues trashed the senior management as a matter of course. When I interviewed, colleagues told me that they never take work home with them, and a couple weeks after I started, I was criticized for not being on my email from home overnight or early in the morning. My computer moved at the speed of a dinosaur because of the cybersecurity protections installed which made it hard to be efficient. There were many out of date cultural norms like the silent rule to never ask any questions when someone says "Any Questions?" at the end of a town hall."

Former Employee - Associate says

"Your career won't go anywhere if you are not Spanish. Arrogant and disrespectful attitude from the seniors, especially from HO. Below market pay"

"The technology here is outdated. Simple transactions that take one click anywhere takes at least 30 mins to complete. EVERYTHING here is ridiculous. Surprised this company still exists"

"micro management, number focused , strict, no managerial support"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"They organized the businesses to get around US regulations but it backfired and now they have a structure that doesn't work. Everyone has a C-Suite title so nothing can get done. The people who are promoted are the ones who have been there long enough to navigate the mess, not because they are qualified. As a result turnover is extremely high and productivity is extremely low."

Former Employee - Small Business Relationship Manager says

"Terrible technology, unachievable goals, maniac sales manager who leads through fear and humiliation."

"Trying to explain poor systems to uneducated management is pointless. They squeeze the life out of you and have no regard for work/life balance. No employee can reach their potential if the proper tools are not provided, inadequate systems and management is setting anyone up for failure."

BOM (Former Employee) says

"Santander is not a place where you can grow within the company. Real managers are extremely hard to come by. Cannot trust anyone. For some odd reason managers want to see each other branches fail. Management is to busy talking out of both sides of their mouth to recognize real talent. If you do not have a solid team, you will fail. I would never ever recommend working at Santander Bank. Wasted a lot of my time with the company. PLEASE do not waste your time.FriendsLack of professionalism within Districts. Low pay. No work life balance."

"Management is all from Spain they place no value on workers at any level especially when you aren’t a Spaniard expect manager meetings to be 20 minutes late because your boss is getting coffee with her boss and he’s more important that you. I’m amazed that things work the way they handle things."

Bank Teller (Former Employee) says

"I started on my very first day eager to penetrate the banking industry. It was completely different from my last job and career path in the food service industry. Training was great for the most part. I trained at a branch in Bryn Mawr and every single person I met was bright and encouraging and helpful and positive and kind. Especially the manager. Training was tough only because it was computer based and the first time being trained inside a branch"

Personal Banker (Former Employee) says

Enhanced Personal Finance Advisor (Current Employee) says

"Look else where, management in that place aren’t great and love giving disciplinaries out like it’s a punishment exercise and so it gives the managers a job to do or either escape their daily work. Such a tense and very fake atmosphere. Managers are paid to sit on their phones and business managers are paid for putting Christmas trees up around the office at Christmas.... and to walk round the office looking good"

Float Teller (Former Employee) says

"Santander is one of the few banks where you can get promoted if you either have an affair with your mgr or regional mgr or if you have connections. Otherwise forget about being promoted. Most of these jobs are posted just to be legally compliant ,the candidates are selected long time ago. Branches are always short staff. Rel"

O WELL !"

Thomas Cooke says

"This bank is awful - they are best avoided"

Harriet says

"Awful customer service!"

Awais says

"Extremely incompetent staff in mortgage complaints team. They lack the most basic soft skill - listening! They make a decision based on inaccurate notes on the account before they call you, and when you request the inaccuracies to be corrected they refuse to do so. Having been with Santander for over 20 years, I've always stuck with them as I felt a sense of loyalty, clealy that's not reciprocated. Will be moving all my banking away from them. Good riddance!!!! I can't believe Antonio Simoes left HSBC for this organisation."

Shannon Scott Wechsler says

"I'm looking for a new bank. I have been a customer for many years but this year has been the worst. This is my second negative experience with Santander. They put a block on my card during a holiday shopping weekend. After going through all my purchases it was very clear that these are places that I shop at frequently. I am not sure why the block was put on my card. They called right at dinner time. And I burn our holiday meal while I was dealing with the non-existent crisis."

Savedbygrace says

Joy Howard says

"WORSE COMPANY EVER. I am on last two payments. Santander call me to tell me my payment amount has changed due to interest that has accrued. I have never missed a payment or ever late. Please don't use this company. They are shysters."

Neil Valentine says

"Awful telephone help. Was not getting pass codes via SMS. Tried telephone help and was asked for a password I don't have, not any of the ones I use for online banking. complete shambles."

Liam Hainsworth says

"The worst bank I’ve ever experienced! Made me feel like a fraudster and blocked my account, they also withheld my money (wage) from me when I needed it. The staff on the phone were arrogant and really unhelpful! Wouldn’t let me give less than 1 star, otherwise I would’ve. Will 100% be changing banks and closing this down! I advise anybody who’s looking to open a bank account to look elsewhere! Embarrassing"

Penny Lane says

"WORST BANK EVER!! AVOID AT ALL COST!! I applied for forbearance during the pandemic and got approved. On the second month of forbearance, the put an error on my account stating I didn't pay, well ofcourse, I'm on forbearance. Two months later, i get off the forbearance and they still haven't fixed my account. My credit score dropped 110 points. Everytime I call them they keep giving me a whole other story. Keep giving me run around to how long it'll take to fix it. There isn't a single person that will give you any answer. They have useless supervisors that only give you fake textbook answers with no solutions. AVOID AT ALL COST!!! WORST F***** BANK EVER!!!!!!"

Richard J Moyer says

"They do not back fraud. Promise bonus to join and do not back it. One star is to much"

Urilka Rousseau says

"When you ask them to lift a block so that you may move your own funds from one account to another within their bank and they tell you the pandemic is over and you have to come in. When you clarify and say you just need a lift and you'll move it yourself with your online banking and they say the pandemic is over you need to come in. It is at that moment you realize banks are a dime a dozen and it's time to move on. Don't waste your time, bank elsewhere."

Hector Correa says

"Customer service have to be the biggest problem to my experience. They seem to not understand customer service ask to speak to a supervisor (regarding it Black Friday depositing money to do a lil shopping but nothing they can do till Monday the 30th). 11/27/2020 at 4:40 pm and that’s wasn’t a option I was told."

Bklynzizi says

"This is the worst bank if you have a lot of money. I moved a big CD from one bank into my account. They held the check deposit for 4 months “investigating fraud”. I was transferring money from one American bank to Another, this was a check drawn in US dollars drawn from a FDIC back American bank. If the check came from an overseas bank than I could understand why they would do this but this made no sense. This is a good bank though if you need a place to direct deposit a paycheck without fees. DON’T USE Their INVESTMENTS services. They talked me into a IRA investment that held my money for 5 years and I barely made any interest. They just use the bank to scam you." is a non-profit organization and communications forum for social activism.
